ABOUT THE TEAM
Young Men Sporting Club was established in 1938 in the old “Dry Dock” area in District 6.
The team was founded on Cultural enrichment, grouping together traditionalists, with an aim to preserve the many unique cultures of the Cape Malays at the time. One of these unique cultural traditions was the “Kaapse Maleie Koor” and at inception the club was known as the “Jonge Manne Sport en Kultuur groep”
With time, it has become a vibrant leader in the sport and encourages youth participation at all levels of the sport. Membership ranges from 7 years to 70 years.
The club has seen fierce competitions, trying financial times and has weathered, segregation, forceful removal from District 6 and financial crisis.
A Tribute To
ABDURAGHMAAN MORRIS
Better known as “Boeta Maan” 1957- 2022
Abduraghmaan Morris, lovingly known as “Ta Maan” in the fraternity of Malay Choirs, started out with Young Men Sporting Club as a 2nd generation Youth member in his teens.
He progressed to become one of the most prolific lead singers in the Nederlandse Lied item. A strong and confident lead singer, under the mentorship of his late father who was also the YMSC leader singer in this item and the most successful “voorsinger” in the fraternity. Boeta Maan stands out as a leader of Young Men Sporting club as he committed his life to the well-being and success of the club.
Boeta Maan sadly passed in 2022, and both his sons today stand at the helm of managing the Young Men Sporting Club under the guidance of his brother Adnaan Morris. We Salute our beloved Ta Maan for his commitment to the club.
